Dhaka: A gas pipeline explosion left a one-year-old child dead and three others critically injured in Old Dhaka's Bangshal area.

The accident took place on Thursday morning at the ground floor of a two-storey house, located close to the Shamshabad Jummon Community Centre.

The deceased has been identified as Moinul. Three others, Jabed, Sheuli and Jannat, have been identified as the father, mother and sister, respectively, of the one-year-old.

They are presently undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The infant died after a wall collapsed on top of him following the explosion.

According to Bangshal Police Station OC Shahin Fakir, the pipeline was faulty and may have exploded due to excess pressure.

The ground floors of other buildings also sustained damages in the explosion.
