১৯৭৯ সালে জন্মলগ্নের সময় থেকেই দেশের স্বাধীনতার ব্যাপারে বি এন পি দোদুল্যমান থেকেছে এবং ১৯৭১ সালে যে গণহত্যার বলি হয়েছিলেন তিরিশ লক্ষ মানুষ, ধর্ষিতা হয়েছিলেন আড়াই লক্ষ মহিলা, সে ব্যাপার নিয়েও এই দল কোনওদিনই কোনও কথা তোলেনি।
BNP and the liberation war
Since its inception in 1979, BNP has remained ambivalent on the issue of liberation war and never found it necessary to draw attention to the genocide in 1971 liberation war which left thirty lakh people dead and more than 250,000 women sexually assaulted. BNP’s founder and Bangladesh’s first military dictator Gen Ziaur Rahman’s career as President till he was assassinated in a military coup in May 1981 indicates that he had been working against liberation of the country.
